Today I guided Matt and his buddy for ducks. The morning started out a little slow but as it went on the ducks started to fly and we hammered away at them. We did not let many get away and ended the hunt with 16 ducks and 3 specks. What a way to end the season!

Today I guided Paul and Cody for ducks. The fog was in and so were the ducks! There were birds popping in here and there all morning and the guys were killing almost every bird that they shot at! We ended the morning with 21 birds. I can't think of a better way to end the last of the season!

Today I guided Kerry and Cole for ducks. We got to the club this morning and the fog was super thick and we could here birds flying up in it. Slowly but surely birds started to materialize out of the fog and we went to work on them. We ended the morning with 17 ducks and 5 specks. It was a great shoot and a perfect way to finish up the season.

Today I guided Doug Belden and his crew for pheasants. The ground was nice and damp and the birds held well making it a great hunt. We ended up putting 22 birds up and the guys killed 17 of them. I was a nice change of pace, as the duck hunting has been a little slow this week.

Today I guided Bruce and his 2 boys on a duck hunt. As you can see the weather was clear and calm, seems to be the new normal lately! We had no action at all until around 10:00 when the sprig finally decided to play and we made quick work of them. We ended the hunt with 8 sprig.

The clients for today cancelled last minute so we said the hell with it and went hunting any how. It wasn't fast and furious but we ended the morning with our 14 birds! There were lots of teal around today and they were responding to the call well.

Today I guided John and Jack Guenza on a duck hunt. While the weather did not cooperate for us we stuck it out in the blind until 10;00 and managed to get them 3 ducks and a speck for dinner! Hopefully it will get better soon.

The rice has slowed down again so I decided to give the wetland a try today. We had 2 groups of hunters so we split up and hunted in separate ends of the marsh and the shooting was great. Both groups had plenty of action and ended up with good quality birds! It was another great shoot and I will be looking forward to the next one!

1-14-13 (PM)

I finally made it back from the ISE show in Sacramento and after putting away all of the stuff I felt the urge to go sit in a duck blind. My buddy Raith had been shooting good in Sutter so I grabbed my son and all of my duck hunting stuff and ran down the road for a quick afternoon shoot. We got into the blind at 3:30 and were back to the truck by 5:00 with 14 birds for the 2 of us. It was a great hunt and we had birds all over us all afternoon. All of the ducks flying were sprig and spoons, but at this point in the game we will take what we can get!

Today we had 2 groups of hunters in the field. We had a group in Richvale and a group near Delevan with almost the same results. One blind ended with 10 birds and the other 9. There were quite a few birds flying but they did not want anything to do with the blinds. The birds that did come in listened well and stayed with the guys. Not to many ducks that were shot at today lived to tell their story! It was another good day in the rice.

1-13-13

Today I guided Ken and his group for ducks. We got into the blind and the only thing flying was sprig. We had our 8 sprig down fairly quick and then continued to watch for other birds as sprig after sprig worked the spread. We stayed at it and ended up getting a couple widgeon and a couple spoons for the strap. We stuck it out until noon but finally got tired of watching the sprig show and called it a day. If only the limit was 7 sprig!

We had 2 groups of hunters in the field today with about the same results. Both blinds shot a mixed bag of birds and had a blast doing it. Hopefully the birds will continue to cooperate for the remainder of the season!

1-11-13

Today we had out 2 groups of hunters and shot the rice blinds near the Delevan and Colusa Refuges. Today both blinds had plenty of action, However, the blind near Colusa was the top dog! The guys in that blind ended up with 21 birds for the 5 of them but it wasn't for lack of birds. Between missed shots and broken guns they had a hell of a time. The Delevan blind shot quality over quantity today as they ended the morning with 8 big birds and chose to pass on the spoons. Again a couple of good hunts with happy hunters being the end result.

Today we had 2 groups of hunters in the field and the hunting was great! We hunted the Delevan blind and the Richvale blind today and both blinds produced limits for the clients as well as the guides! It was finally like it should be this time of year with birds all over the place and working into the calls well. Both blinds had great shoot and very happy hunters.

Today I guided Ed and his cousin for ducks. We headed to the rice blind near Delevan and were greeted by the fog! The fog was thick but the birds were working good and before long we were limited out. The hunt was over by 9:00 with a mixed bag of birds for the 3 of us. Lets hope the fog sticks around!

Today I guided Jim and Kurt for ducks. The rice had been a little slow so we headed over to the wetland to see what it had to offer. We decided to get away from the blind and move out into the middle of the wetland as the birds kept wanting to land out there. We made the trek carrying 5 decoys and the robo duck and it proved to be a good move. It was not long before we had birds starting to work and as soon as it started it was over! We had limits by 10:00 and were headed in. It was a great hunt, not one they will likely forget soon!

Today I guided Jon and his son for ducks and pheasants. We started the morning in the duck blind and ended up killing 12 ducks before heading over to the pheasant club and switching things up. The guys ended up killing 9 pheasants to add to the strap making for a pretty good day of hunting in anyone's book.

1-2-13

This morning I guided Jeff and Adam Fischer. It was clear and calm and there wasn't much flying. There were a few sprig flying around but it seemed as if they were the only ducks leaving the refuge today. We hunted until 10:00 and called it quits with 4 sprig and a honker. We had 3 honkers come right in but only managed to knock one of the B52's down!
