Quick Morning Trip

Hit the river this morning for a quick trip. Launched at Tisdale and ran down stream and threw the pick. It didn't take long to fill the box! We caught close to 20 striper and called it a morning. It looks like we have a great run coming up river.

Ladies Day

Today was ladies day! This group of gals has fished with me for several years now and its always a good time! We launched at Ward's and worked our way down stopping at several different spots and caught fish at all of them. We had to weed through a lot of shakers but ended up filling the box with enough fish for their annual fish fry!

Combo on the Sacramento

We hit the Sacramento River today armed with a flat of pile worms! We launched at Ward's Landing and headed south. I settled in on a corner that I've fished for years and knew would produce! It didn't take long for poles to start bending and fish to hit the box! We ended up catching 20 or so keeper stripers and a keeper sturgeon for the box! A great day on the water, and you cant beat a good bait bite!

Easter gobbler for Cade!

After several unsuccessful attempts and a few missed opportunities the last few years we finally got it done this morning! It seems sometimes that I can get everyone else on birds but when it comes to Regina and the kids the damnedest things usually happen! Well, today the starts aligned and I watched as Cade made a perfect 40 yard shot on this jake that hung up outside the decoys and refused to come any closer. I knew it was a stretch but knew that the Hevi-Shot magnum blend was effective at that range so when Cade was ready he let it rip! The bird crumpled and Cade jumped for joy, I couldn't have been more proud of him. It was a great morning in the field with my little buddy!

Oroville Releases make for muddy water again!

The kids were out of school so we hit the Feather for some striper fishing. I couldn't believe what we saw when we started backing down the ramp! The increased releases from Oroville sent a wall of mud and algea floating down, turning the river back into a muddy mess. The fishing was tough with all of the trash coming down but we finally found a spot where we could get out of it and the kids went to work! They ended up boxing 3 keepers and letting several shakers go. The kids had a blast and we called it a day around 11;00.

Pile Worm Bite

We hit the Feather again this morning and it didn't take long to start getting bit! The water was cold and the fish started the morning off biting lite. As the water warmed up around 10:00 the fish started hanging onto the baits and we put fish after fish over the side. All in all it was a great day of fishing, landing 25 fish mostly keepers and a handful of shakers.

The striper bite has begun!

The high muddy water is cleaning up and the bite on the Feather River has turned on! We went down to the Bear River today and tried some trolling but couldn't get bit. As soon as I threw the hook and got the pile worms out it was game on! We fished bait for about an hour and a half, landing close to twenty legal fish and brought a few of the nicer ones home for tacos!

More Willow Trees

After all of the recent rains it finally dried out a bit and we were able to get into the wetland and plant some trees! We had these in the nursery and planted them along and existing tree ditch to try and block off the wetland from all of the AG work that goes on around us.

The dove candy is coming up!

I went out and checked the safflower plots today and things are looking good! The seed that was planted shallow is coming up and the stuff that got planted a little deeper is on it's way! Within a week or so we should have a solid stand!

Almost Turkey Time!

Just wanted to throw a reminder out there that Turkey season is quickly approaching and it's time to pick your ammo and pattern your guns! We are shooting the Hevi-Shot Magnum Blend and it patterns well and hits hard! Can't wait to watch it roll some toms soon!!!

Hills are looking good!

I went up to the ranch today to watch the crop dusters seed all of the areas where we have removed the brush! The pilots did a great job, getting good coverage of all the areas. Those pilots are damn good, the way they come right through the trees!

The pond in the picture was almost bone dry prior to the last few days of rain. It's full to the top now and spilling out of the spill way! What a difference a few days can make!

Time to plant

In an effort to beat the rain we have been running full throttle for the last few days! It's the time of year when we need to get crops planted with hope that the rain will get them growing! I have been busy the last few days planting our safflower plots for the up coming 2016 dove season! We also took delivery of 40,000 pounds of a seed mix that will be flown on and broad casted on our brush removal sites in the hills. This is an exciting project and I can't wait to see the new growth come late spring! This should provide some great feed and cover for all animals that inhabit the ranch!
