Today I guided Ed Ray from Elk Grove on a duck hunt. I was expecting fog this morning but as we reached the blind a 10 mph North wind had come up and blown it all out. At legal shooting light I was a little nervous as the birds were not flying, but when the sun came up things began to change for the better. We sat patiently and poked away at our limits one pair at a time until around 9:00 when the pintail came out to play. We watched as flock after flock of pintail floated into the decoys and worked right over the blind. After killing our 4 pintail I kept calling them and with every couple of flocks that came in there would be a stray widgeon or two. We ended the morning with 12 ducks and 2 snow geese. Had we not blown a couple of chances we would have gotten our last 2 ducks, but that is how it goes some days.
